The highly anticipated MacBook Pro refresh could be hitting Tuesday, February 23rd, according to a number of accounts we’ve come across this past weekend.
The highly-popular unibody systems were initially rumored to launch on January 27th, 2010 — the same day the iPad made its public debut — but of course did not.
Some speculated the launch could have been last week — but it too was not the date of happiness for Mac fans across the map.
But tomorrow is looking quite likely if Apple maintains their launch schedule as they have in previous years. Let’s make sense of it, shall we?First — remember when we posted about Apple’s iTunes song downloads approaching 10 billion? It wasn’t too long ago — and that counter’s nearly hitting 10 billion. So near in fact that it’s likely to hit the magic number on Tuesday, February 23rd according to some — despite the fact this site claims it will end on Wednesday, the 24th by estimation. Relevance? It would be the perfect time to compliment an updated line of computers just as a massive milestone is reached — something typical of Apple.
We weren’t expecting you to be convinced just on that — but we sprinkled it on anyway (just ’cause), so read on.
Not too long ago, Apple released Aperture 3.0. Humorously enough, the masses were convinced the refreshed MacBook Pro line was coming then — but they were wrong. But if we go back to Aperture 2.0’s February 2008 release — the refreshed MacBook Pros made their public debut two weeks later. If history’s bound to repeat itself, tomorrow’s the date.
Historically speaking, Apple normally updates the product line every 8 months. As far as updates go in February, with the last being on the 26th of February, 2008, they occurred on the final Tuesday of the month. Granted, we’ve only seen one, but again, if history’s bound to repeat itself, tomorrow’s the date.
This past Saturday, we learned that Apple could begin accepting pre-orders for the now-famous iPad tablet. Could they begin tomorrow? If so, a refreshed line of MacBook Pros could increase the iPad’s public exposure — a great marketing move.
To add, current MacBook Pro stock to retailers is becoming less and less, with some retailers (especially those not based in the United States) unable to order the notebooks at all. New SKUs for unknown Apple devices have been appearing what seems to be left and right — indicating a prompt release any … day … now.
But even though we’re just as excited as all of you for the refresh, we cannot say 100% that it will happen tomorrow, so don’t go on and shout it from the rooftops. We’re simply just pointing out the likelihood of the event based on past events.
As a side note, it has been speculated that the refresh is expected to be low-key, meaning no keynote, event, etc.
We’ll keep you updated as we have right along. In the mean time, what’s on your mind?
