Mobile phone consumers may find they have to trade in a handset and switch to the Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY if they wish to enjoy a brand new game. BackStab has been developed by Gameloft and is said to represent the next level in mobile gaming.  The title is to be available exclusively on the device, so those who wish to play will have to splash out on it.

Steve Walker, head of marketing at the manufacturer, said: "BackStab sets a high benchmark graphically and technically for gaming on a smartphone and it is a fantastic addition to the fast growing portfolio of quality releases for Xperia PLAY.

BackStab is set on an 18th-century island and features Henry Blake, a hero who has been wrongly accused of treason and seeks to gain revenge. The Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY is the first model based on the PlayStation and includes a replica of the games console's iconic controller.
